Working in GMP in Leiden

The Leiden Bio Science Park (LBSP) is the largest life-science campus in the Netherlands: around 200 companies and institutes, 20,000 people, and the highest concentration of GMP manufacturing licences in the country. Sterile fill/finish CDMOs, vaccine and biologics manufacturers, several ATMP facilities and a long tail of biotech scale-ups sit within a ten-minute cycle of each other. For QA, QC and validation professionals this means something rare: you can change employer without changing your commute.

Recruitment on the park is competitive. Sites compete for the same sterile QA Officers and CQV Engineers, and Annex 1 (2023) upgrade projects have kept the freelance validation market tight since 2023. Salaries sit at the top of the Dutch range, expect €2–5k above our national medians for QA and validation, and day rates at the upper end for interim.

Commute and housing

Leiden Centraal is 15 minutes from Schiphol and 35 from Amsterdam Centraal, and the LBSP is one stop or a short cycle from the station. Many international staff live in Leiden itself, Oegstgeest, Voorschoten or The Hague (25 minutes). Housing is tight and expensive; expats typically budget €1,500–2,200 for a one- or two-bedroom apartment and start looking before they sign. Language

Most LBSP sites run in English. Dutch is required for very few QA/QC roles on the park, and we mark those explicitly.
